Privacy
The short version.
- You can read the whole site without giving us anything.
- The only personal information we ever ask for is an email address, and only if you want the transfer-window email. We use it for that and nothing else.
- We never sell or share your address, and there is an unsubscribe link in every email.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits. It sets cookies.
Who runs this site
Everton Wire is an independent Everton transfer-news aggregator. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Everton Football Club.
For anything on this page — questions, corrections, or a request about your own data — write to news@evertonwire.com. We are the data controller for the information described below.
If you sign up for the transfer-window email
When you enter your address in the signup box, we store:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To send you the transfer-window email you asked for |
| Which club site you signed up on | So you get the right club's email |
| The date and time, and technical information such as your IP address, recorded automatically by our forms provider | To block automated spam submissions |
Our lawful basis is your consent. You gave it by typing your address in and pressing the button, and you can withdraw it at any time — use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to news@evertonwire.com and we will remove you. Withdrawing does not affect anything we did before you withdrew.
Giving us your address is entirely optional. Nothing on the site is withheld if you do not.
We do not use your address for anything except the email described at signup: one each evening while the transfer window is open, and a final one the morning after it shuts. We do not email between windows, we do not send advertising, and we do not pass your address to anyone else for their own purposes.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It tells us things like page views, roughly where in the world visitors are, and what kind of device they used. We do not use it to identify individuals and we have no interest in doing so.
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and sends data to Google. You can stop it entirely with Google's opt-out browser add-on, by blocking cookies for this site, or by using your browser's tracking protection.
Things kept in your browser
The site stores a few things locally on your own device. These are not sent to us, and we cannot read them:
| Name | What it is for |
|---|---|
ew_dark | Remembers whether you chose dark mode |
ew_signup | Remembers that you signed up or dismissed the signup box, so it does not keep reappearing |
everton_wire_v1 | A copy of the last headlines fetched, so the page loads quickly next time |
Clearing your browser's site data removes all of them.
Hosting, and the pages this site loads from elsewhere
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, their servers keep standard access logs that include IP addresses, for security and to keep the service running.
News headlines are fetched by our own server rather than by your browser, which means the news sites we read do not see your IP address or set cookies on your device.
Two things are loaded directly from other companies, which means those companies receive your IP address as part of the request: a reading-mode script from jsDelivr, and club badges from theclubwire.com. Links out to Ko-fi, X and news publishers are ordinary links — we do not pass anything to them, but once you click, you are on their site and their privacy policy applies.
Who else can see your information
We do not sell your data or share it for anyone else's marketing. It is handled on our behalf by:
- Netlify — hosting and the signup form
- Google — analytics
Both are based in the United States, so information reaches servers outside the UK. Both operate under the safeguards for international transfers set out in UK data protection law.
We would also disclose information if the law required it.
How long we keep it
- Your email address: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If we have not sent you anything for two years — for instance if the email stops running — we will delete the list.
- Analytics: for the retention period set in Google Analytics, currently 14 months.
- Server logs: for as long as our host keeps them, which is a short period.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct it if it is wrong
- delete it
- stop using it, or restrict how we use it
- hand it over in a portable form
In practice, for almost everyone, the only thing we hold is an email address, and you can have it deleted by clicking unsubscribe or asking us. Write to news@evertonwire.com and we will act within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, tell us and we will remove the address.
Changes to this notice
If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant and we hold your email address, we will tell you in an email.
